Deep Creek Lake Sediment Study

Erica Koeplin standing with her Common Waters project poster

Erica Koeplin, class of 2026 and Environmental Engineering major, participated in research looking at erosion along Deep Creek Lake in Garrett County, Maryland. This study will assess one of the two coves recognized to be problematic and a risk to water quality in the area. The results of this research will identify major sediment sources that may be linked to sediment deposition. With Erica's work, better recommendations can be made to limit sediment from entering Deep Creek Lake, preserving the resource for future generations. Erica will be continuing her research through the fall 2025 semester, so be sure to check out any updates on the project at the Common Waters Symposium in the fall of 2025!
