In-Stream Biological Restoration Post-AMD Remediation of Upper Decker’s Creek

Kara Meadows with project poster

Kara Meadows, an Environmental, Soil and Water Sciences major, participated in research assessing potential habitat structures to correct extreme channelization post-Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) remediation. Kara collected data for several parameters related to water quality, biological organisms, and channelization, which provided information for which habitat structures would be most effective if implemented at the sites.  Next semester, Kara will continue collecting this data and help install habitat structures to support the re-establishment of fisheries.
